There are pros and cons regarding learning history. Some people argue that it is only wasting time, however others think differently, that history is important to learn. In this essay, I will discuss both views.
In one hand, history means something happened in the past. Maybe people need to recognize the history, thus, we can know something important than already happened. However, we cannot do more to change the past, so people will agree that depth studying history just waste of time, unless you want to be a professional historian. Now, we live in the present and it is important to prepare our future, rather than studying something in the past. For instance, it is more beneficial to learn about emerging technology that can helps us in the future such as AI or robotic.
In the other hand, history can offer us inspirations on how to ace present time and also the futures. History can be the best practices and lesson-learnt for us, so we should not reinvent the wheel. The past event can give us valuable experiences to lead what to do now as well as futures. Learning history may create people wiser, because they learn about mistakes that other people have experienced before. For example, Indonesian people can learn about the strategies which were used in the Indonesian and Netherland war era, way before the Independence Day of Indonesia, to replicate in the present days, in order to facing enemies and tackle challenges that can break the unity.
In conclusion, studying history can be positive or negative, it depends on what the goals of our mission. It could be important to study history so that we can learn much and apply it nowadays. However, it could be not as important as that, and we just need to be informed in shorts about history, and no need to depth learning.
