Band 7+: Some people think that teachers at school are more responsible for children's intellectual and social development than parents. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What is your personal opinion?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often argued that when children begin formal education, lecturers have a stronger impact on their mentalities than parents. From my own perspective, I partly agree with this viewpoint, and I firmly believe that parents also play an integral role in influencing the children’s overall growth.

Admittedly, instructors contribute significantly to the intellectual and social progress of students. To be more specific, children spend several hours each day acquiring knowledge and developing essential academic skills under the guidance of educators. For example, mentors stimulate students’curiosity by integrating many structured and captivating lessons at school. Secondly, schools are also social environments where learners can interact with peers, learn teamwork and develop communication skills. These experiences are extremely crucial in helping youngsters build discipline and cooperation, which are fundamental for success in both school and later life.

However, parental figures remain vital in rearing their sons and daughters at home. The first essential reason is that they are the first teachers who lay the foundation for a child’s behavior. From an early age, parents teach essential life skills such as respect, honesty and empathy, which shape how minors interact with others. Besides, the environment at home strongly impacts a child’s attitude. For instance, when caretakers show encouragement at home, provide emotional support and create a positive atmosphere for study, children will likely develop greater confidence and motivation.

In conclusion, although teachers are instrumental in conveying lessons for students, I firmly believe that parents still play a crucial role in educating children. Therefore, a balanced contribution from both teachers and parents is necessary to ensure the holistic development of every child.
