Undoubtedly, with the advancement of technology, social media is said to play a vital role in today’s era, while a few individuals argue that it is a waste of time. This essay will discuss both viewpoints, provide reasons and examples for each perspective, and share my own thoughts.
On one hand, social media utilizes networking techniques to facilitate communication among individuals via the internet. This means that people can connect with a single click, making it easy to communicate with others, which can be very beneficial for society. Additionally, social media allows users to share unique moments they experience with friends and family. For example, simply by sharing images and videos, users can showcase their exciting moments.
On the other hand, some critics argue that social media is a waste of time as it decreases face-to-face communication skills. They assert that increased reliance on technology for communication leads to a decline in in-person interactions. A significant percentage of respondents—over 63%—prefer online communication to in-person conversations, highlighting a major shift towards digital interaction. Furthermore, excessive scrolling can lead to laziness, negatively impacting health and contributing to issues like obesity, which can result in various hormonal conditions. This, in turn, can lead to a lack of motivation, feelings of fatigue, and mood disturbances.
In my opinion, social media enhances communication among people and allows them to showcase unique life experiences. While it is important to avoid excessive scrolling that leads to laziness, the benefits of social media platforms outweigh the disadvantages when used in moderation.
