Band 6+: Some people think the advertisement has positive economic effects, while others think it has social impacts because individuals are not satisfied with who they are and what they have. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many people believe that advertising might lead to enjoyable economic ramifications, whilst other think that such promoting can negatively influence society, making people confused with their personality and the things that they, in fact, own. Personally, I strongly agree with the point of view that advertisement might have distruptive impact on society.

On the one hand, advertising encourage people to purchase certain items or services, stimulating the economic growth of private sector. Furthermore, businesses pay identical taxes according their income, which in result increases the budget of a country. Founder of worldwide fast-food web called McDonald’s was forced to pay fees to the governments in order to set up his businesses and display its advertisements around the world. In other words, the growth of financial resources of countries depend on promotings directly.

On the other one, it is extremely possible that advertising is the reason of confusion and frustration of individuals’ identities and their properties. Companies are likely to hire high-qualified and good-looking actors for their promotions of certain goods or services, which makes people to become more unconfident about themselfs. For instance, the previous fast-food company of McDonald’s tend to demonstrate people eating junky food, remaining fit and well-shaped. This is the outcome of people’s misunderstanding of how the individuals on the screen are able to stay fit keep eating fast food, while they are not. On top of that, some of the mainstream products displayed on screens or billdoards are not affordable and the economic state of population does not allow them to spend money on these products, which also will be a reason of society not being satisfied with the things they have.

In conslusion, advertising is an excellent method of improving economics, but I believe that such promoting will have debilitating impact on people’s confidence and self-acceptance.
