Nowadays, most people have access to news through mass media and social media platforms. Some believe that media should not interpret every single detail of crimes and incidents. I totally agree with this statement for two reasons.
Firstly, if media outlets report on all aspects of crimes, it could lead to a rise in feelings of fear and anxiety among ordinary people. Trust in the government and democracy can erode when the latest news on incidents triggers negative emotions. Consequently, individuals who perceive their surroundings as unsafe might heavily invest in security and lose trust in the government and laws. For example, the wealthy may fortify their living areas with guards to protect their children and property from criminals.
Secondly, widespread reporting of crime articles and news may encourage individuals to imitate or emulate the actions of criminals. The desire for fame and notoriety is particularly prevalent among young people today. Therefore, excessive information on criminals may fuel aspirations for recognition. With access to details of various crimes and methods of execution through media reports on platforms like TV, newspapers, and social media, people may be more inclined to commit crimes impulsively.
In conclusion, divulging all aspects of crimes can result in various social issues such as negative emotions and imitation of criminals. Therefore, in my view, media outlets should refrain from reporting extensive data on incidents.
