It is argued by some people that violent films cause criminal behavior. I particularly agree to the point that there are certain limitations that should be addressed. Watching violent movies may encourage negative behavioral patterns, but it does not always do so; it depends on people’s intentions.
On the one hand, this perspective can be valid, although it depends on circumstances. If individuals watch vicious movies too much and deviate from social norms, it may lead to negative outcomes. Because they watch a lot of violent movies, this affects their brain functions, which might mean that committing a crime seems like a normal thing to them. Especially, this plays a huge role in children’s and teenagers’ lives. This means that their mental health is not fully developed, so they will engage in criminal behavior much faster. For example, if children watch violent movies, they might think it is normal and reason, “Other people did it, so I can do it too,” since their brain functions cannot differentiate between right and wrong. As a result, they may get confused about what constitutes a crime and what is not acceptable.
On the other hand, committing a crime does not always result from watching vicious films. If individuals watch horror movies to relieve stress or because they want to feel an adrenaline rush, it will not cause bad behavior. Expressly, if they do not watch horror movies frequently, which can be harmful to their mental health, this does not affect human behavior overall. Furthermore, if adults watch horror movies, it will not be as impactful as when children watch them. This is because adults’ brains are fully developed, so they can distinguish between what is good and what is bad.
In conclusion, I firmly believe horror films do not inherently cause criminal behavior. However, violent movies do have an effect on children’s and teenagers’ behavior. The major point is that this depends on individuals’ purposes; watching such films occasionally merely to feel an adrenaline rush does not lead in a negative direction.
