With the increase in the number of vehicles and industries, the problem of air pollution is also steadily escalating. While some people believe that the viable way to solve this problem in cities is to increase the cost of vehicle fuel, other people contend that different measures should be taken to eradicate it. I believe that the government should take other comprehensive measures to improve the situation, considering other factors like deforestation and industrialisation which significantly contribute to air pollution.
Increasing the price of vehicle fuel does ultimately reduce pollution to some extent, but it also possesses numerous economic challenges. For instance, fuel-producing companies will face a drastic reduction in the demand for their products, eventually leading to severe losses. Furthermore, the products we use for daily needs are transported from different parts of the country. So the inflation in the oil and petroleum sector can have adverse effects on the prices of daily-used products, leading to a financial burden.
People who advocate against the above fact say that various different sources and activities that contribute to air pollution should also be considered. First, deforestation: plants and trees are regarded as natural air purifiers. With the expansion of the cities, forests and green belts are being cleared and destroyed, consequently leading to air pollution. So the government is obliged to ban or reduce deforestation and impose heavy fines for violations of the laws. In addition, the factories located at the outskirts of the cities are a major source of pollution in different towns. They release toxic gases like carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which are detrimental to people’s health. So it becomes mandatory to either shift those industries far away from the cities or completely shut them down.
In conclusion, there are various other factors of air pollution apart from vehicles, and all of them should be considered while taking measures against the problem. Rather than taking such steps that bring challenges to both the economy and individuals, the government should take other formidable measures to alleviate air pollution. A clean atmosphere contributes to a healthy lifestyle and increases life expectancy. It eventually fosters the overall welfare of the nation.
