In this day and age, opinions are divided into whether the lives of the elderly are worse or better compared to the previous day. In this essay, I will challenge both these views and give my viewpoint on the matter.
On the one hand, living in old age is harder nowadays for two reasons. In the past, extended family was popular, and the elderly played an important role in daily life such as helping raise children. However, the rise of people moving to cities for work has disrupted these traditions, leaving old family members alone. As a result, many older people feel isolated and less valued, which also causes psychological problems towards them. In addition, some elderly who struggle with using technological devices may feel distracted and less connected by modern life. Over time, these rapid alternations in society and technology have hindered old people from living a happy life.
On the other hand, some improvements of the modern era have helped the lives of the elderly these days become healthier and easier for them. The primary reason is that people are more prone to severe diseases as they grow older. Specifically, many modern medicines and therapies today can cure illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes, which were dangerous before. New technology also enhances the quality of old people’s lives by helping them stay connected with other family members while their children work in distant cities. These developments have made life more longer and more comfortable for the elderly.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions determining whether the lives of old generation today have improved or not, I believe that old people can enhance their well-being and longevity in this era. It is recommended that younger generations should spend more time with their older family members.
