Some people believe that countries that organize global sport events such as the Olympic Games or the football World Cup are spending money in vain, as it can be devoted instead to education and healthcare, while others still mention their vital role in sport development. I personally support countries that hold international sports events since it encourages young population to immerse themselves in sports and helps raise future sportsmen.
There is a view that countries should not waste money on world sports events. This is mainly because money spent on such entertainment can be repurposed to address people’s needs such as schools or hospitals. In some developing countries, such as Kazakhstan, there is a lack of well-organized schools for the young population and very few hospitals that are highly equipped. As a result, countries will suffer from allocating large amount of finances to just a sport event instead of improving the countries’ quality of life.
However, a strong argument in favor of international sports events is that they cater to people’s interest and desire to follow how their favorite athletes perform in worldwide games. In recent years, more and more people have started to take an interest in sports, and they are showing growing enthusiasm for major sporting events such as the Olympic Games. Take young football fans in Kazakhstan as an example; they often tend to watch popular football players like Ronaldo or Messi at such events. As a result, the majority of the population often supports holding prestigious games as they are fans of sports.
From my own standpoint, while it is important to devote resources to essential fields in people’s lives, I believe that hosting sport Olympiads is no less important than them. This is because, since worldwide popular games occur on social media and TV, the younger population will increase their fondness and desire to become sportsmen. Hence, such sporting activities will encourage more children to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, although investing in international sports events may seem like a waste of budget, I believe that countries should balance their finances between recreational events and meeting people’s needs.
