While some people view music as merely a kind of entertainment, others believe that it holds considerable importance in society. While I acknowledge the reasons behind the former view, I still firmly support the latter.
Those who advocate music solely as a means of amusement may have several valid arguments. They may well argue that the music industry primarily aims to attract listeners, which fosters the belief that music exists merely for recreational purposes. The music trends nowadays mostly emphasis on catchy melodies and appealing visuals to attract more interest from the media. This can decrease the meaningfulness of lyrics, which makes people regard music merely as a form of leisure and entertainment. Another possible argument is that music is associated with parties or festivals. Music in the background can boost mood and create an atmosphere of enjoyment, reinforcing the perception of music as mere entertainment.
Nevertheless, I still hold the belief that music plays a multifaced role in societal development for several reasons. Chief among these is that music can contribute into the economic advancement. Concerts and festivals, for example, attract many people attending, which generates huge revenue from ticket sales, advertising and local business. These funds can boost economy development. The second reason is that music has traditional importance. Folk songs, for instance, have survived through societal development and thus it can reflect characteristics of past periods. This aspect of music plays a crucial role in preserving cultural and traditional values.
In conclusion, it is understandable why some may agrue that music is only a source of entertainment. However, I still hold the belief that music serves a significant function within society.
