The crime rates are growing day by day in some countries and therefore become difficult to deal with. There is a belief that increasing the number of police officers on the streets can be the best option to decrease offenses. I don’t think this idea would be a very useful approach and that’s why I don’t agree with it.
To begin with, there are some reasons why some believe that more police on the streets can reduce crime. First, this approach can deter offenders who are always afraid of being caught when they commit crimes on the street. For example, shoplifters do not dare to steal goods because they know they are being watched by the police. Second, it may increase the frequency of public scrutiny of police stations. In fact, there is more surveillance because there are more police officers ready to deal with emergencies, which reduces the opportunities for criminals to break the law.
Despite the reasons I’ve listed above, I don’t think that increasing the number of police officers on the streets is enough to make crime disappear entirely. Because nowadays the types of crimes are increasing day by day, and because of this, crimes do not happen only on the street. Due to the development of technologies and artificial intelligence in the current digital age, the number of cybercriminals is increasing day by day, which does not happen on the streets and in some cases no one can notice. As a result, police stations must incorporate technological skills into their system to fully combat criminals.
In conclusion, some believe that more police on the streets is the only way to combat the rising crime rate, because it can deter criminals from breaking the law and increase the control of police stations. However, adding modern professions to police stations to reduce the number of cyber and international criminals and increasing the number of policemen to reduce the potential problems due to crime should not be too much emphasis.
