Opinions are divided on whether investing in space-related activities or focusing on unresolved problems on Earth is more significant. In my point of view, while space exploration offers benefits, the immediate needs on Earth, such as poverty and environmental issues, require urgent attention.
Admittedly, space exploration brings some potential solutions for problems on Earth. For instance, satellite-related technologies designed for outer space tasks play a crucial role in monitoring weather patterns and environmental alterations around the globe. This has notably improved the ability to make predictions and partly managed natural disasters. In addition, space studies lead to the advent of numerous innovative technologies with practical applications in daily life. It was GPS navigation that initially designed for space missions, now applied in transport systems. Furthermore, taking advanced medical imaging technology as an example, which used to be utilized in military missions, this technology currently is used for civilian purposes. Together, these applications contribute to enhanced quality of life of individuals globally.
However, I believe challenges that people have to face on Earth are more urgent. As for the extreme poverty which is affecting billions of people in third world countries, developed nations have witnessed these individuals struggling to survive every day. Imagining that these space projects funds can be redirected to people who need it, offering essential resources including fresh water, grains, and basic medical services for them, millions of lives can be saved. Besides that, our planet is facing severe environmental degradation needing on time actions. The fact that increasing sea level, melting of glacier rivers, extreme weather conditions are occurring more frequently and the rapid species extinction are evident signals to warn people about the protection of our only home in the Universe.
In conclusion, despite some benefits of space research in improving humans well-being, addressing challenges on Earth needs more priorities. I contend that after poverty and environmental issues can be solved, human will have more resources for investing in space-related activities.
