Band 7+: Students learn far more with their teachers than other sources (internet or television), To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, with the development of technology, students have many sources to acquire knowledge. It is believed that the effectiveness is higher when students learn with a teacher compared to other sources. I personally agree with this perspective and would support my argument in this essay.

Opponents of this viewpoint often overstate the diversity of information provided by online sources. They often argue that with the vast amount of information available on the internet and TV, students can easily find any exercise and its solution, which helps them study at home more effectively and easily . Nonetheless, the shortsighted viewpoint fails to consider the giant storage of knowledge on social media, which can overwhelm children as they might struggle to commence their learning journey. Evidence for this can be seen during the COVID-19 pandemic when students learned online via Zoom and independently searched for additional knowledge and exercises at home. With so many results available on the internet, students were unable to know which ones to choose, making learning more difficult. Therefore, the perspective that students reap more benefits when they study with other sources instead of teachers is completely unreasonable.

In tandem with it, teachers are not only providers of knowledge but also help us enhance our soft skills. With their experience and knowledge accumulated over many years of teaching, they can answer students’ questions in a detailed and accurate manner. Additionally, direct interactions with teachers in the classroom help students become more confident in their communication. This is particularly true in the case of Vinschools, a secondary school in Vietnam, where teachers often organize debate competitions in their class and guide students on how to prepare and deliver a persuasive speech on stage. This guidance and support from teachers help students confidently tackle debates and develop a wide range of skills such as critical thinking, inference-making, opinion sharing skills besides academic knowledge.

In summary, I completely agree that students should learn more with teachers because their extensive experience makes the learning process more effective. Guidance, shaping, and feedback from teachers help students absorb knowledge more deeply and efficiently.
