In these days, some part of the society have an opinion that people can find any information online. In fact, they think libraries lost their past value. I’m totally disagree with this idea for some reasons like not everyone has reliable internet access-libraries bridge the digital divide.
With the rise of the internet, search engines, and digital databases, some argue that physical libraries have become relics of the past. There is no doubt that the internet has revolutionized the way we access information. Search engines like Google allow users to find to answers to almost any question within seconds, while online platforms offer millions of e-books, academic journals, and research papers at the touch of a button. For many people, especially younger generations who have grown up with technology, visiting a physical library feels unnecessary when so much data is available digitally. Streaming services, digital archives, open-access websites have made it possible to learn, research, and read entirely from the comfort of one’s home.
Despite these advancements, libraries continue to play a vital role that the internet simply cannot replace. While the internet in rural or low-income communities still lack reliable connectivity, libraries serve as great equalizers, providing free access to knowledge for everyone, regardless of their financial situation or location. I think, libraries offer something increasingly rare in our distracted, noisy world- a quiet, structured environment designed for focused learning and concentration. Students, researchers, and professionals alike benefit from a dedicated space where they can think clearly and work without interruption. The internet, while vast, is also filled with misinformation, unreliable sources, and misleading content. Libraries, on the other hand, take their collections carefully, ensuring that the books, journals, and databases they offer meet high standards of accuracy and credibility.
In conclusion, the internet has a great information source but they can’t replace the role of libraries. Hence, they promote equal access to knowledge and support quality learning, in my opinion.
