Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: Technology has affected many aspects of education, and some schools have replaced traditional textbooks with tablets and digital materials. Do the advantages of this change outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a huge impact of technology in the educational field. It is proven by the fact that several institutions have transformed printed books to electronic versions that could be accessed from particular devices, including tablets, gadgets, and computers. From my point of view, this phenomenon might be very beneficial for both students and teachers, even though there are still some detrimental effects of it.

To begin with, providing learning materials digitally is an effective way to lead pupils and tutors to become more used to technology. It is inevitable that young learners nowadays can spend up to 8 hours at school. It means that, if they use technological tools in their learning time, they would become more familiar with the use of modern equipment. This can help them to perform well in their workspace, after finishing their study. Moreover, studying with e-books can help students to minimize their expenditure. This is related to the prices of the physical edition that are more expensive than the electronic ones in general. This economical aspect is very crucial to be considered because it can affect the capacity of societies in accessing education.

Having said that, studying with digital books might enable students to cheat while doing the exams. This is strongly connected with the current examination approach when students have to do the test through websites that they can visit from their own gadgets or other technical devices. For example, when there is a final exam at school and the test candidates are allowed to use certain tools such as computers. This opens a possibility for them to access other websites that contain lessons/materials that are questioned in the test. This probability might worsen if there is no proper supervision from the teachers during the examination. In addition, pupils can also get health problems because of the radiation rays if they read the material from gadgets. They should not be excessively exposed to radiation in order to keep their eyes healthy.

In conclusion, a digital-based learning system may give students and tutors some advantages, including accessing sophisticated technology and reducing spending on buying books. However, studying from gadgets can allow cheating during exams and it also can be harmful to eye health.
