Individuals have contrasted views about whether countries are better to help and support each other. While governments can simply waste the money by spending on unimportant areas, I believe the spirit of help and supportiveness is an ethical duty of humanity which has several benefits.
On the on hand, wasting the money due to lack of management in some governments can lead to several disadvantages. Firstly, this money can be invested in more important fields. For instance, we can invest this money on building schools for people of developing countries who are suffering from lack of access to high quality education equipment. Secondly, since governments, that received this aid, have not tried for gaining this money, will not appreciate it properly. As a result, these kinds of help can make them lazy and they might consider this as our responsibility toward themselves. Finally, I believe that before giving money to a country we should hold meetings for discussing how to manage it optimally.
On the other hand, helping each other as a moral duty can bring about multiple advantages. Firstly, the idea of world without borders (i.e. globalization) means our activities can highly influence on each other, therefore, helping to another country will be beneficial for ourselves in final point. For instance, consider a country that still utilizes old fashioned machines in its industry that produces a huge amount of emissions. This country can make the entire earth warmer and threat the living circumstances for the next generations. Secondly, the support and help must not be necessarily in the form of money. For example, making latest knowledge and modern innovation accessible for public is a great aid for humanity. Finally, I believe that what distinguishes us from animals are some properties including supportiveness, dedicatedness. Therefore, it would be unethical and against humanity if we did not suffer from other people’s pain and bad circumstances.
In conclusion, I can understand why some individuals are against sending money to other countries that are needed our help, but is seems to me that it is our ethical responsibility to be concerned of other human’s situations. However, I believe that this intuition would be beneficial to ourselves eventually.
