Raising the fuel prices is considered to be the most effective way to reduce/mitigate the environmental problems of the world. I completely agree with the given statement because increased fuel prices reduces traffic congestion and also encourages people to use public transportation.
It is important to understand that, increasing the cost of fuel reduces the number of vehicles on the street. This is because a majority of individuals can’t afford high fuel prices and hence only the affluent can use private vehicles. This helps to control the carbon emissions and help reduce pollution. For instance, a reduction of 50% in the air pollution was observed in Singapore within two months after the government announced a 30% hike in the fuel prices.
Another point to consider is that, raising the fuel prices will make people to use public transport. Since many people have to travel far for work, they choose public vehicles because the fuel has become so expensive so they need to go by bus or train. For instance, when the American’s government in 2023 put higher tax on petroleum and reduced the price of the train’s ticket, the residents completely opted to use public transport, which greatly helped to reduce pollution levels.
In conclusion/ To conclude, escalating fuel prices significantly mitigates pollution and controls environmental problem. It is indeed a fast and effective method to deal with the environmental issues of the world.
