Band 5+: The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.

The given two pie-charts displays the usage of energy for various purposes and greenhouse gas emissions in Australia in six categories: water heating, refrigeration, heating, cooling, lighting, and other usages. The data are calibrated in percentage.

In overview, in energy use chart , the most of the energy is consumed for heating purpose and least is used for cooling purpose. A similar trend is observed in greenhouse gas emissions, with heating again being the most significant contributor and lighting the least.

In detail, first chart depicts, 42% of energy consumed in an Australian family is emitted due to heating, which is the highest figure on the chart , followed by that of water heating at 30%, covering more than 70%. Meanwhile, the remaining less than 30% was divided into four other sectors : other usage 15% , refrigeration 7%, and lighting 4%. Cooling recorded the lowest percentage of energy consumption , with only 2%.

Furthermore, the second diagram is a detailed breakdown of gas emission from different energy-consuming activities. It shows that water heating had a highest share of gas emission which is 32%, followed by other appliances,28%. Additionally, refrigeration, heating, lighting’s share was 14%, 15%, and 3% respectively. Cooling, again had a minor share of gas emission of 3%.
