In this day and age, many people believe that the only method to ehance traffic safety on roads is to impose much harsher punishment for people who commit driving offences. However, I am more convinced that there are several better ways to deal with lawbreakers.
To begin with, it is obvious that the stricter traffic laws can play a important role in raising public awareness. In some local places or even some countries, there are many people on limited incomes, so that when the government enforce stricter punishment especially on the financial perspective, people will be less likely to commit a traffic offence. For instance, in Vietnam, many drivers running the red lights, whether by accident or design. This action may leads to a fine from 3 to 4 milion VND and help reduce lots of accidents.
However, this method may not optimal, as there are three other effective measures. From a educational perspective, more and more training courses about how to be safe when we use the roads should be provided by schools and universities. The higher individual’s awarenesses is the consequence of the more young age education for children. Additionally, the government and country’s administrators can increase the minimum age of having driving licence and increase the difficulty of the test. For example: cite from Vietnam’s law in transportation Vietnamese who are 16 years old can drive electric bikes, and people over 18 years old can have their own personal vehicle. This may leads to a huge number of drivers drive recklessly since they are not have access to proper education of road safety. Finally, invest effectively the transport system including repainting the signs, expand and ehance the paths and streets and improve the quality of facilities is one way to confront dangerous to users. In remote areas or the outskirts, inadequate facilities or even animals such as cows or buffaloes come across the road often the main reason cause many accidents.
With all mentioned above, not only putting heavier fine on the person who have driving offence is the only measure to cope with dangerous situations, but also includes raising awareness of society, increasing the age of driving and improving the facilities are also result in safer and more comfortable experience of joining traffic.
