Many people believe that modern technology is widening the gap between the rich and the poor, while others argue it has the opposite effect. In my opinion, I agree with the view that technological innovations have increased the divide between different parts of our society.
On the one hand, technology can be seen as a tool for equality. The main reason is the internet, which provides free or cheap access to information. Today, anyone with a smartphone can learn new skills through online courses or start a small business on social media. In the past, only wealthy people could afford a high-quality education. Therefore, some argue that technology gives people from low – income backgrounds a real chance to improve their lives and compete on a global level.
On the other hand, I believe that technology often benefits the wealthy more than the poor. Firstly, modern technological devices, such as advanced high – speed hardware, is very expensive. Only rich individuals and large companies can afford the best tools, which gives them a massive advantage in business and productivity. Secondly, automation and artificial intelligence are now replacing many low-skilled jobs. While business owners increase their profits by using robots, many ordinary workers lose their source of income. This process clearly concentrates wealth in the hands of a few, making the poor even more vulnerable.
In conclusion, although technology offers some opportunities for everyone, its benefits are not distributed equally. Because the rich can afford better tools and machines are replacing manual labor, I believe that technological progress is making the gap between social classes wider.
