Band 5+: The responsibility to prevent global environmental damage is on politicians rather than individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The global population is increasing at an exponential rate. The resources to support their existence are limited and are overused. Increased dependency on automation is causing pollution and damaging the environment in several ways. I believe that to protect the environmental deterioration is duty of every civilian and not of just the politicians. To demonstrate this point, I will draw on personal experiences from past.

The environment is a responsibility of all people. In order to minimize the damage caused by human activities, government makes various rules and regulations. However, to abide them is the duty of every individual. The politicians can only make promises which they will fulfil if they came in power. People need to comprehend that they cannot rely on such faux hopes and need to act for themselves. Every country is differently environmentally damaged and it is better known by its citizen.

Furthermore, people can unite to form groups which work as an organization to eradicate issues from the root. This type of institute is called as non-government organization and can effectively contribute to the protection of environment. One of the many such NGO’s is “ALL WELL” in Vadodara, a city in western state of India, where the individuals are affiliated with it to treat polluted water of wells and rivers and provide potable water to many villages. Similarly, if everyone understands the complexity of the situation and contributes their bit, a massive change can happen.

While I believe politicians can contribute and lead the path to solve the global concern for protection against environmental damage, I feel the key aspects are the people who should take the accountability for bringing the change.
