Major environmental problems and global unethical workplace conditions were caused by a sudden rise of fast fashion. This harmful practice was caused by numerous factors, and several measures need to be taken by governments and certain individuals to solve it.
The first cause of the issue is that ethical work conditions are not enforced. This means that some workplaces are not punished for maintaining illegal workplace conditions: such inhumane practices include not paying enough money, overworking employees, and hiring children. Illegal fast fashion ateliers all across the world, mainly in Asia where workplace requirements are not enforced as stricly as in other continents, continue to function and produce clothing. All governments should combat such unethical labor practices by punishing irresponsible employers and shutting down fast fashion facilities accordingly.
Another cause of the problem is that fast fashion is popular among people who cannot afford ethically produced clothing. Lower class people have a single affordable option for buying clothes, which is purchasing cheap and low quality fast fashion’s products. As a result, fast fashion’s popularity continues to rise in poorer countries. Individuals who sell clothes should provide more ethical second hand options in order to eliminate demand for fast fashion.
The rapid rise of fast fashion was mainly caused by unregulated work conditions and the presence of customers who have no other options for buying clothes. The authorities and individuals selling clothes are responsible for solving this issue by strictly enforcing ethical work conditions and providing higher quality second hand clothing options.
