It has been argued that government should support the retirees financially, while some claim it is individual’s responsibility to take care of themselves. This essay will discuss both the opinions and conclude with an answer.
To begin with, all the retired people are aged above fifty five years and they are dependent on others for their financial and personal care. These people worked throughout their lifetime to survive and take care of their family. Moreover, they would have spent their entire savings into their children’s education. This is the phase where they seek help from government to support them because they lack the strength and energy to do work like before to make their living. For instance, people in India spend their retired money either into their child’s wedding or education. Once they spent that amount, they look for other ways to earn money to make their living. So, it is essential for the government to help these people during their old age.
On the other hand, it is stated that it is one’s responsibility to plan for their future needs and make arrangements according to it. They believe that government schemes are unreliable and could change at any moment. For example, several manifestos addressed during election campaign regarding retirement funds has not been implemented in India. This creates credibility issues and makes them to think that no one is coming to save them. Thus it each one’s duty to plan for their future and act accordingly.
Based on analyzing all the factors, I firmly believe that government should help the retirees financially and personally. Despite all those credibility issues, these people has contributed to the economy and now they are in their hard times. Thus, it important for the government to take care of them.
