One school of thought holds that businesses should only concentrate on producing revenue and do not need to care about public responsibilities. From my perspective, I disagree with this idea based on some reasons, which will be explained in this essay.
On the one hand, the importance of generating profit is undeniable, and there are several reasons why numerous companies tend to focus only on making money. It is true that the primary goal of a wide range of firms may be to ensure financial stability and career security for their employees, and prioritizing profit is the most effective way to achieve it. To be specific, without sustainable financial resources, the living standard of the workers cannot be improved, leading to reduced dedication and even their leaving. Moreover, the financial aspect can be regarded as one of the most essential elements of the expansion of each business. Due to the increasing competitiveness in most industries, work opportunities, such as contracting or collaborating to produce profit, become more difficult for firms that do not possess an adequate financial background.
On the other hand, I believe that corporations also need to concentrate on social responsibilities. First and foremost, along with the development of technology and urbanization, a vast number of businesses use natural resources as the main factor for their operations. This may lead to severe pollution, so they need to act on a timely solution to compensate for the consequences. For instance, many construction companies exploit some areas near residential areas, contributing to a drop in people’s environmental conditions and even causing some diseases. As a result, these organizations should implement some remedies and compensation, such as an amount of money or some approaches to lessen the environmental impact. Additionally, having public responsibilities also creates an increase in business reputation. It is true that, when a firm puts its effort into carrying out its social duties, people may have a positive impression of it. This is definitely crucial in the expansion of these corporations in the future.
In conclusion, while the prioritizing of generating profit of some companies is understandable, I contend that they should also care about community obligations to improve their image in the public perspective, which also offers them certain advantages in expansion.
