Band 7+: The top priority of businesses is making money, and they do not need to have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is an ongoing debate regarding the role of entrepreneurship and its involvement in social responsibilities. Some people assert that the prior goal of any business is permanently profit, while others advocate for the need to face the damage caused to our society. I believe that while money orientation is undeniably one of the major parts of a business, social consequences should not be overlooked.

On the one hand, companies cannot succeed and increase customer loyalty if they ignore the communities around them. Considering ethical issues, proper job conditions, and sustainable production is a vital part of making a positive impact on society. Indeed, when companies prioritise these aspects, they not only contribute to the well-being of the environment they live in but also enhance the efficiency of the business through a stronger brand reputation. Moreover, the current global climate crisis highlights the importance of businesses incorporating sustainable technologies as a way to combat environmental degradation and promote long-term economic prosperity.

On the other hand, in the contemporary capitalistic world, maximising profit is the key idea. Some critics argue that every person is in charge of his decisions and purchases, thus, advertising and business are eligible to focus mainly on sales. Moreover, in a market-driven economy and highly competitive business environment, attracting investment is seen as the most significant goal, as otherwise there is a chance of going bankrupt. Inevitably, losing profit leads to the loss of jobs and economic stability, which poses great risks to society and makes companies focused on revenue.

In conclusion, there are certain benefits for a business when it includes customer service and stays accountable for the social effects that it creates. Even though profit is essential for the success of a business, prioritizing client satisfaction and social responsibility can lead to enhanced brand loyalty and trust, which are crucial in today’s competitive marketplace.
