Band 7+: The world's natural resources are consumed at an ever-increased rate. What are the dangers of this situation? What should we do?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age, the resources on Earth are being exploited excessively. This essay attempts to shed light on the problems which have resulted from this phenomenon before outlining several viable solutions that should be adopted to tackle them.

There are two major dangers that are caused by the overuse of natural resources. First and foremost, it could have an adverse bearing on the environment. To perfectly exemplify, the abuse of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, would be to blame for the release of greenhouse gasses and air pollution since these non-renewable energies could release a multitude of harmful pollutants like carbon dioxide. Therefore, this would facilitate the damage of human well-being, especially leading to respiratory diseases for children and the elderly. Furthermore, the overconsumption of the Earth’s resources would result in water pollution. This is because the disposal of both industrial and household waste that are untreated might dirty and contaminate the water, thereby posing a threat to marine life and human health.

To combat this worrying situation, the following feasible steps should be taken. One measure is that governing bodies should make citizens mitigate the overexploitation of natural resources. To illustrate, the authorities could not only introduce regulations to alleviate the use of these resources but also impose higher taxes on them, which might minimize human reliance on them. Another approach is to encourage people to consume eco-friendly resources. The state officials should develop and reduce the cost of alternative energy resources, such as solar and wind energy. Consequently, inhabitants would rather use these renewable energies than the non-renewables.

In conclusion, there are some serious repercussions attributable to the exploitation of the world’s resources at an ever-increased rate, and it is crucial that the aforementioned measures should be implemented to deal with these issues.
