International destinations are becoming quite popular among job seekers these days. We see more and more people leave their home country in search for better employment opportunities and most of them take their families with them. We can see a growing concern about the effect of such a trend on the development of a family and I am of the opinion that the positive impacts surpasses the down sides.
Moving to a developed country has its own perks. First of all, better income is the main attraction that has drawn people towards first world countries. Increased income enables the families to improve their standards of living. They get exposed to different cultures and traditions and this helps them to broaden their perspectives and build confidence. Their children get the opportunity to experience better quality of education. It also helps them to learn new languages as overcoming language barriers become a necessity.
Furthermore settling abroad with family means that the family get to stay together. In situations where either one or both the parents work abroad leaving their children back in their home country, we see a lack of bonding. This can have a negative effect on the child’s development and also their relationship with their parents.
Even though there are a lot of advantages, there are certain negative sides to this also. As the families settle abroad, their relation with distant relatives can get affected. A larger family comprising of grandparents, cousins etc. is always better for child development which is lacking in nuclear families settling abroad. The initial cultural shock is also to be mentioned.
To conclude, even though there are some disadvantages of settling abroad, I think that it is not so significant considering the advantages. Apart from a few problems like cultural shock, families get to expand their horizons and improve their lifestyle. The above mentioned negative effects can be overcome by better communication and bonding between the family members.
