The topic of appearance has been in public discourse for a long time. In contemporary times, individuals tend to spend a great amount of money on the way how they look. This essay will examine possible reasons for such trend.
Initially, it is modern fashion standards that lead the tendency. In order to suit to them, people spend a decent amount of money on surgery operations, which make face younger than before. To illustrate, nowadays’ standards mostly refers to Asian countries, especially Southern Korea and Japan, where it is essential to have young-looking appearance. If people do not look young and beautiful, they will be bullied by peers. That is why individuals often spend a great deal of monetary resources on surgery operations to adopt into a society’s norms. Therefore, it is contemporary fashion standards that force people to spend a lot of money on surgery operations.
Furthermore, psychological value is also another factor why people want to be younger than they really are. The reason why it has an impact on mental level is because some individuals cannot accept that they become older, so in order to save their youth people tend to use cosmetics, lead a variety of diets and sometimes ask help from surgeries. For instance, around the globe there are a numerous number of elderly people, who tend to color their hair in order to cover their gray hair. Since gray hair usually seen as a sign of old age, older individuals are ready to spend money in order to look younger. As a result, it assists them to feel more confident on themselves and energetic, while the only thing that changed is appearance.
Ultimately, there are several factors that influence this situation such as modern fashion standards and psychological meaning for individuals spending their money on their appearance. From my perspective, this tendency is more negative than positive trend since people cannot accept the way how the look and try to be younger than it really is. It is impossible for humans to become younger, and it can be waste of money to spend them on what that cannot be done.
