As globalization has been developing, people can acquire food from different countries even though with a long distance. However, some environmentalists claim that transporting food to other places will affect the environment. In this essay, I will discuss the reasons why the trend of transferring food from farms to consumers and clarify whether it is an adverse phenomenon.
Due to the advancement of transportation, including air planes, vessels, or vehicles, people can easily gain the food from all over the world. Not only is the food being transported, but also different aspects of items. Additionally, governments usually will help farmers to promote their products in order to boost the economy and mitigate the gap between the upper class and the underprivileged. It can help the farmers to sell their foods and also let the consumers have a better experience.
On the other hand, some argue that it will affect our habitats as transporting foods will increase the emission of carbon dioxide, damaging the environment. According to some research, the transportation for food is affecting our habitats and having irreversible ramifications. Although it can provide a variety of foods for the populace, it will deteriorate the local products. For instance, supermarkets are importing more indigenous foods for the consumers while negotiating the local food. However, the globalization allows people to have a taste of different kinds of cuisines while we should change the method to transfer the goods.
Overall, it is a negative trend in different dimensions, such as environmentally and economically. However, if the government can introduce a new way such as utilizing electronic cars to transport the food. It can provide an eco-friendly way for the consumers and benefits the farmers.
