In today’s society, advertising plays an important role in the sales of popular consumer goods. It is commonly held belief that adverts are supposed to help customers find goods or services that match their requirements. However, they also the tool to shape consumers’ purchasing habits in society. I agree with this belief.
First, advertising techniques had increasingly over the years, making it difficult for consumers to differentiate between their actual needs and the wants created by commercials. For example, various companies use social media platforms to target specific groups of consumer and manipulate their sense of need for products they may not have even thought about before.
Secondly, companies often spend a large amount of budget on promotion than improving the quality of their products or services to their customers. We have seen this a lot through many case of fast-food chains that spend a significant portion of their revenue on commercials than focusing on providing healthier and ensuring the safe of food options.
However, promoters of goods and services now control our minds more aggressively. Commercials are supposed to guide people to learn about different features of various products and make them conscious of what to expect from a service. When such adverts falsely promise us to have a “better” lifestyle with luxury image if we buy and use their goods, we are unfortunately become puppets in their hand.
In conclusion, advertising plays an important role in shaping consumer behaviour and driving sales of popular consumer goods. I think that high sales in modern society is the result of new promotional technologies and manipulated adverts policy rather that a guide for people’s actual needs.
