Living in big cities has become a challenging experience for many people. This essay will explain how the significant increase in population has negatively affected cities and present some alternatives to deal with this problem.
The primary problem that most large cities have faced is the swift, uncontrollable increase in their population numbers. The quality of life starts to decrease as cities become overcrowded. For instance, the demand for housing tends to be bigger than the capacity to build new dwellers, resulting in an increase in rents and housing prices. Another problem is transport. Commuting in large cities is one of the leading causes of stress for their inhabitants. For example, many people in some metropoles have to spend more than 4 hours a day in traffic moving to and from work.
Addressing the causes that incentivize people to move to big cities should be the first step to controlling the urban population increase. Many people move to these places in search of better jobs and study opportunities. It is possible to conclude that the number of people moving to cities would reduce if remote work and study were incentivized. Housing and transportation problems would be alleviated as a result. Thus, governments, educational institutions and companies should work together to achieve this goal, allowing people to reap some of the benefits usually related to living in large cities without moving to these areas.
In conclusion, the quality of life has dropped in large cities because they are overpopulated. Therefore, reducing their population is a must, and that can be done by implementing more flexible working and studying agreements.
