In this day and age, men’s sports programs are allocated more airtime than women’s. There are two main reasons for this phenomenon. In my opinion, I believe that women’s sports should be given equal airtime with men’s sports.
In this essay, I will go further into the reasons why TV networks give men’s sports more airtime than women’s sports. The main reason is because of a large number of male viewers, TV channels have a trend of showing sport programs for men so that they can receive as much profits as possible. In daily life, we can see that many males often have a discussion about the latest sport event, while females tend to focus on shopping or clothing. Besides, a men’s sport match usually has a stimulating and powerful atmosphere which seems to be extremely attractive and make the match more exciting for people to watch.
On the other hand, I expect that TV networks will allocate the same amount of airtime for both men and women’s sports. First, it contributes to raising people’s awareness of gender equality and encourages women to participate in more activities. Because women always try to do their best and strive in all fields, their effort should be recognised. Second, women can earn more money from advertisements when they are given more TV coverage. It will help females have higher salaries and their living standard can be improved in the future.
In conclusion, women’s sports are allocated less coverage on TV channels than men’s sports, and I think it is necessary for TV networks to provide equal airtime to both women and men’s sports.
