In the contemporary milieu, the advancements of students’ study is a prevalent concern. Some universities and colleges opine that applying technological tools in educating students in lieu of offline study with teachers and classmates in the classroom. From my perspective, the demerits of this school of thought, with more severe impacts on students and social developments, overshadow the perks it brings.
On the one hand, the concept will arouse the morale and learning skills of students. It is conspicuous that by supporting students’ study in terms of their online courses will boost their performance in lessons, thus increasing the number of students having education opportunities although those have obstacles regarding geographical distance or difficulty in moving. A propelling testament for this is the remediation in education when the COVID-19 broke out and quarantine occured, the Ministry of Education and Training has asked schools to open online classes so as not to delay students’ learning.
On the other hand, funding online courses hinders the quality of education and social development. First of all, the online learning environment can easily distract students from many external factors such as social networks and games due to lack of teacher supervision, hence, affecting student learning performance and the quality of school education. In addition, offering distance learning creates threats for many teachers. In other words, if schools switch education to online classes, it could lead to a reduction in the number of teachers. As a result, unemployment rates will rise giving rise to severe impact on the country’s economy.
In conclusion, both pros and cons hold their justifications. My perspective is although distance classes are accessible and allow many students to learn, they do not guarantee quality education. In this case, maintaining face-to-face learning should be given priority to improve the quality of education and development of nation.
