It is a well-known fact that any product consumed by humans needs an extensive amount of testing and assurance before being available for public consumption specially if it concerns the safety and wellbeing of our kind like drugs and cosmetic. Studying the effects of these products on animals has been one of the most regularly used methods for scientists and companies for many years. How ever now people are paying more attention to the morality of this experiments. This essay will review the points agreeing and opposing this matter.
Those in favor of this kind of testing will raise the fact that if research is not done on a live animal, the true extent of the after effects of a drug might not be visible to the manufacturer. Another point that this side of the opposition are making is that many animals are being raised for experimental purposes only and there are no wild animals being harmed during this process.
On the other hand people in disagreement with the utilization of live animals in laboratories for production of any form drugs or cosmetics would raise an argument that as a superior form of life on earth humankind should be aware of the harm it is doing to other creatures. This group of people would say while it is vital that research should be carried out before a drug is available for public, there should simply be another alternative to testing medicine on live animals. In addition to this, another point is raised that although it can be of help to test drugs on some beings like rats the true final effects of drugs will not reveal themselves until being introduced to human body.
In my humble opinion while both sides make feasible points regarding this matter, it is notable that until now there is no alternative introduced to testing on live animal forms to understand the consequences of using a new type of drug. Still some effects can be studied with experiments that do not involve live animals like some types of allergies that can be caused by a pharmacy product. In conclusion to this matter, I believe that it is justified to reduce on unnecessary use of live animals in these kinds of experiments but until there is a reliable alternative, experimenting for types of drugs that may have hidden harmful effects should continue on another live form other than humans to ensure safety.
