Children are being vaccinated by various immunization programs all over the world. While some people believe that vaccinating children is not a must and it causes more harm than good, I believe that the potential benefits far outweigh the risks.
Proponents of anti-vaccinations argue that it is dangerous and unnecessary to get vaccinated because of the stress it causes to the kids and the potential for getting anaphylactic shock. Any parent know how stressful it is for both their kid and themselves. The most extreme complication of vaccination, anaphylactic shock can be life threatening. For example, a study done by the health ministry in 2013 found that 1 in 5000 vaccinations leads to anaphylaxis, and If immediate interventions are not done it can lead to death in 1 in 50,000 of the time. Although the risk is real, it is categorized as very low risk by health professionals.
Conversely, I believe that the benefits of vaccinations are significantly higher than its drawbacks. Main reason for this is it prevents certain diseases that are harder to cure if the person was to get it. According to the family health bureau in the USA, the ” Gardasil” vaccine for prevention of cervical cancer has dramatically decreased the incidence of cervical cancer. If the vaccine is not taken and a person were to get cervical cancer it can spread to other parts of the body and will lead to surgery and chemotherapy, which is not only harmful to the body but also more expensive than a simple vaccine shot.
In conclusion, while certain individuals advocate against vaccination of children, vaccinating against preventable diseases is of paramount importance as the advantages of preventing future diseases far exceed the potential downsides. Finally it is a well accepted fact that, prevention is better than the cure.
