Band 9: We cannot help everyone in the world that needs help, so we should only be concerned with our own communities and countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often argued that helping and supporting every human on the planet is a task that can never be achieved, and therefore, people should exclusively focus on their own communities and nations. Personally, I completely disagree with this claim, primarily because in today’s modern world, technology has made it easier than ever to reach people who are far away. In addition, I believe that helping a smaller, more manageable number of people around the world is a solid starting point, rather than trying to support everyone at once.

Firstly, through recent technological advancements, we can easily and securely reach individuals across the globe and support them with essential aid, such as food, heating equipment, and clothing. In fact, transportation via flights and shipping is highly accessible nowadays, and essential supplies can be acquired at extremely low prices, for example, through thrift stores or wholesale suppliers. In cases where physical travel is impossible, individuals can still provide meaningful assistance virtually. This can be done by boosting social media campaigns, marching for global causes, or even boycotting products made by multinational corporations that contribute to the misery of others. This approach has proven highly effective; for instance, the fast-food giant McDonald’s suffered significant economic losses amid widespread consumer boycotts organized in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Furthermore, the most effective strategy is not to assist everyone on Earth from the get-go – which is admittedly unrealistic – but rather to start with smaller, localized communities. Targeting a realistic number of people improves the likelihood of a successful mission, which consequently boosts the morale of volunteers and motivates them to undertake similar initiatives. Over time, this improves quality of life on a local level and inspires those who were helped to assist others. Ultimately, this chain reaction can build a vast global network of motivated individuals ready to support vulnerable populations. For instance, this is precisely how the World Health Organization operates successfully: by deploying multiple small-scale teams to work directly within remote or war-torn communities across the globe.

In conclusion, by leveraging modern technology and focusing our efforts on smaller, manageable groups, we can establish highly effective global aid systems. I remain firmly of the opinion that our capacity to help extends far beyond our local borders, and utilizing this capacity is essential for building a better world.

Recently, some people argue that it is unachievable to save all the people who need help; therefore, we need only pay attention to those who are familiar. In my opinion, I partly agree to this argument for the reason that individual powers have limits. Firstly, as I mention in the introduction, each person’s available time […]

WRITING TASK 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. After the rapid growth of online streaming services, theatres and cinemas have become less convenient, especially when it comes to money and time, which I agree with to some extent, since there is a caveat here: cinemas and theatres don’t only offer the media that is being consumed but rather a whole experience that can’t […]
