In contemporary education, the question of whether who should be responsible for instilling discipline among students has sparked considerable debate. While some people believe that teachers should assume the leading role in developing discipline, others argue that parents are better positioned. From my perspective, teachers should take the primary responsibility for teaching students how to be disciplined, as they have enough practical experience and knowledge.
On the one hand, there are valid reasons why many people support the view that parental involvement would help students become more disciplined in education. One compelling argument is that parents spend significant time with their children, so they can equip children with the skills needed in the classroom. Therefore, instilling discipline in children can be easier with parents, as parents can provide practical instruction for children from their own experience. For instance, parents can support their children by helping them restrict harmful habits such as smoking or playing online games daily, which leads to a more disciplined lifestyle.
Nevertheless, I strongly contend that professional guidance would bring numerous benefits to children and their discipline in the classroom. Although parental involvement can be highly beneficial in cultivating discipline among students, teachers’ practical experience and knowledge cannot be overstated. For example, teachers can provide students structured and consistent learning environment, which not only helps students become disciplined but also enhances their academic performance.
To sum up, even though parents are better positioned in making children habitually responsible and disciplined in life, I am convinced that educational environment and professional guidance can bring long-term benefits to students’ discipline and cognitive development.
