Nowadays, automation and artificial intelligence are replacing many jobs that people used to do. Some people think governments should give everyone a universal basic income (UBI) to help those who lose their jobs, while others believe this idea may cause problems. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, universal basic income can help people who lose their jobs because of technology. Many workers, especially in factories or simple office jobs, may not be needed anymore. If the government gives them a basic income, they can still pay for food, housing, and other needs. In addition, UBI can give people time to learn new skills or find better jobs in the future.
On the other hand, some people think UBI may make people less willing to work. If people receive money without working, they might become lazy or depend too much on the government. This can also be expensive for the country, and the government may need to increase taxes.
In my opinion, I believe UBI can be helpful if it is used carefully. It should support people who really need help, but governments should also encourage people to work and improve their skills.
In conclusion, although universal basic income may reduce motivation to work, it can still be a useful solution for job loss caused by technology if managed properly.
