Nowadays, more people prefer travelling to foreign countries virtually due to the widespread availability of travel programmes on TV and various social media platforms. Some people believe that this trend causes fewer people paying large sums of money to travel abroad, while others argue that it is more meaningful to gain real-life experiences. In my opinion, I strongly disagree that more people will replace travelling physically with watching travel programmes on TV and online.
Those in favour of relying on travel programmes to visit a foreign country put forth several reasons to support their stance. To begin with, travelling abroad is extremely expensive, as the prices of international air tickets usually cost an arm and a leg. Additionally, people need to pay for accommodation, food and entry to famous tourist attractions, which can be a huge financial burden for those not affluent enough. Therefore, watching travel programmes allows low-income individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the world while saving a significant amount of money.
However, opponents of such practices claim that travelling abroad is more fascinating than learning about the world through a digital screen. For instance, people can immerse themselves in a different culture and expand their horizons during their vacation in another country. Besides, they can also interact with the locals and try out a wide variety of authentic food. Thus, visiting a foreign country is not a waste of money.
In my view, the costs of travelling can be reduced by opting for cheaper budget airlines and hotels. Moreover, there are now innumerable travel deals and promotions available, particularly during peak seasons, making travelling abroad an opportunity for everyone. Furthermore, life is short, and everyone only lives once. Hence, it is important to enjoy life and explore the world before it is too late.
In conclusion, while some people enjoy watching travel programmes because of the high costs of travelling, others favour visiting foreign countries in real life to expose themselves to new customs and traditions. On top of that, it is important to step out of our comfort zone and see the world at least once in a lifetime. Therefore, with the availability of low-cost flights and travel packages, I disagree that fewer people will be willing to pay the costs of travelling abroad.
