Band 8+: With the rise of personalized medicine, some argue that healthcare resources should be primarily allocated to preventative genetic testing, while others believe that resources should continue to focus on treating existing illnesses. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

The topic of personalized and population-based healthcare services has sparked debate. In my view, providing the public with equitable services is more suitable than personalizing them, since it has more advantages and encourages public authorities to provide all people with similar and proper services.

On the one hand, many developed countries, particularly in Europe, provide their citizens with free healthcare services, aiming to ensure that all individuals obtain the same standard of treatment. This is mainly because authorities in such nations invest heavily in infrastructure every year in order to offer the highest quality care and reduce inequality. For instance, in Germany, public provisions such as education and healthcare are almost cost-free. This has led to a significant decline in feelings of inequality in society, as all citizens benefit from similar and identical care and support. Therefore, obtaining identical medical care plays an important role in this trend, since it represents part of every country’s infrastructure.

On the other hand, personalized medicine and genetic testing may have some benefits. One reason for this is that, due to genetic information, many patients were healed. This is because genes are known for their significance and importance in the healthcare sector, as they carry essential medical information. For instance, thanks to genetic testing, doctors can detect breast cancer even before the emergence of symptoms and provide patients with personalized medical treatment in order to heal them and reduce the danger. As a result, personalized medicine and genetic testing can be a crucial part of healthcare systems, as it provides both medical sectors and individuals with unprecedented and effective measures.

In conclusion, although genetic testing can be effective in examining and detecting illnesses, I strongly support the idea of a population-based approach since it prevents societies from social comparison and inequality and grants equal care and support.
