Band 7+: With the rise of remote work, some argue that physical offices will become obsolete. Others believe that offices are essential for collaboration and company culture. To what extent do you agree or disagree that physical offices will remain important in the future?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Due to the continuously growing society and evolving technology, traditional workplaces are threateningly decreasing as humans start to consider the efficiency of remote jobs. In this essay, I will consider this relative topic.

It is understandable that people may now prefer flexible careers that don’t require physical attendance due to many reasons. People can sit in the comfort of their homes and still create income which provides their lives efficiency. This allows them to multi-task and get more things done within 24 hours. It is also helpful for a percentage of the population that have children and may need to care for them most of the time. Remote jobs provides them a sense of control over both their home life and their career, decreasing the anxiety parents may feel about leaving their child alone or placing them under the care of a babysitter. It may also be quite helpful for those who have disabilities and may prefer to work alone as they wouldn’t be under the prying eyes of others, ensuring they’re able to work professionally. Certain jobs may be located in areas that are difficult to access which complicates the lives of those who may have disabilities and companies may not be willing to fix that for only a single employee. Thus, remote jobs may be the answer they are looking for, providing both the worker a comfortable working environment and productive results for the company.

On the other hand, the disappearance of traditional offices may be scary towards our future as humans are supposed to rely on each other in order to develop and create growth in business. With more people working online and using websites or applications to have meetings, the physical human interactions depletes as our days go by, possibly taking creative ideas along with it. Without real-life presence and sharing ideas in real-time, companies may start to rely on AI and therefore produce products that are no longer personalized and unique thus, decreasing their consumer market and increasing competition between competitors. Alongside this, quality control and supervision of employees will also be increasingly difficult for managers as they aren’t able to see if these workers are truly working or using AI tools to create their answers and finish their tasks.

In conclusion, although remote jobs may be useful for a certain demographic of people, it must be used under supervision and enforced rules to ensure that workers prevent from exploiting the ability to work from home. Companies must be assertive when implementing these rules within the workplace and create comfort for their employees as well as make sure that they’re receiving the results they need.
