In today’s world, along with the outstanding development of society, people are also having to deal with a greater amount of work. There are several factors associated with this problem, and from my point of view, this trend brings some detrimental impacts to both individuals and society.
On the one hand, there are a lot of reasons why people become workaholics. The first one is that working adults are dealing with a heavy financial burden, especially living expenses. For instance, rising housing costs can put a strain on individuals, making it challenging to secure suitable accommodation within their budget. According to a recent survey, over half of employees responded that they are struggling with covering the increasing housing costs, which may increase dramatically annually. Another reason is that the increasing market competition or business opportunities cause many people to face heavy workloads. In other words, if people do not try their best, they can easily be removed from their current position and replaced by more excellent people. As a result, working overtime and having a hectic schedule, require staff to sacrifice a large amount of time to meet the deadline.
On the other hand, this tendency brings some negative effects to both individuals and society. First and foremost, workers’ health can be impaired both physically and mentally. Workaholics may face obsessive thoughts, impatience, headaches, fatigue, or stomach pain. This is the stressor and the root of exhaustion in humans.
Secondly, working too much can affect people’s family and social relationships. To exemplify, spending too much time at work can prevent employees from having enough time to meet friends and spend time with family and loved ones. This leads to obstacles in social relationships and causes society to become disconnected.
To conclude, there are many factors associated with residents spending too much time at work and it is my firm’s conviction that this trend brings a number of adverse effects to both individuals and society.
