Physical Strength refers to the ability of the muscles in the body to exert force. This is most commonly needed in sports like weightlifting, boxing, gymnastics, rugby, and many more. Despite the need of strength in multiple sports this is not just an innate ability. Like most abilities this needs to be trained and enhanced for long periods of time, with some starting as early as their childhood. During this time of improvements athletes may face different hurdles in their training. They can experience losses and even injuries which can push back their progress and lead to demotivation.
Hence why mental strength is needed. Losses, injuries, and delays are all normal occurrences in the life of an athlete. If they lack the discipline and the ability to bounce back from these it would not matter whether they were physically strong or the best in the game. In example Simon Biles, she is undoubtedly one of the best gymnasts of this generation however due to mental health problems from online criticisms she was not able to compete. Mental strength is the determination, the drive to push through when things get tough to succeed. At its very core it is their fire, their motivation.
