The benefits of outdoor spaces can be seen worldwide. It is widely seen that having public spaces, such as parks and squares, is significant for towns and cities. I strongly agree with this statement, as I firmly believe that large open spaces in urban areas benefit communities’ mental health and improve sustainability. In this essay, I will present my reasons for my opinion.
First of all, one of the significant reasons for having open spaces in urban areas is that it improves public health. This is because open landscapes provide spaces not only for adults for jogging, exercising, and cycling but also allow children to play safely and spend time with nature. Studies, for example, have shown that spending time with nature reduces stress and improves mental health. Thus, it is essential to build outdoor spaces for the general public.
Furthermore, another important reason for my opinion is the environmental benefits. This is primarily because while trees in parks absorb cities’ pollution, provide fresh air, and cool the cities during scorching summer, they also support birds and other animals. Squares, on the other hand, support businesses, concerts, and rallies. For instance, many major events are held in squares, and seasonal birds come and rest in parks. Clearly, open spaces support many activities and offer spaces for animals.
In conclusion, while open landscapes allow people to relax and pursue an activity, they benefit the environment by reducing urban temperature and providing shade for animals and birds. Ultimately, it is essential for cities and towns to have parks and squares for the benefits of the public.
