Band 5+: Young people in the modern world seem to have more power and influence than any previous young generation. Why is this the case? What impact does this have on the relationship between old and young people?

In the modern society, it is sometimes argued that youngsters are likely to be more powerful and influential compared to their previous generation. From my perspective, this trend can be attributed to a particular reason and the relationship between the young and the old would witness some changes such as sentimental gap, differences about perspectives

This issue can be explained by the fact that young people nowadays appear to have more rights than they used to. For example, in the present day, students are often given an opportunity to express themselves, exchange their ideas or even evaluate the teaching methods of their facilitators in front of the class rather than to be inactive listeners as their former generations such as Gen Z, Gen Y who tended to absorb all the lessons which are delivered by their educators . In addition, there are a number of debates hold weekly or monthly which serve as ideal places for students to raise their voices for current issues such as gender discrimination, environmental problems,… and give feasible solutions to address them. As a result, adolescents in the modern era are likelihood of having the ability to significantly influence the society.

Personally, I believe that although this is the positive development, this tendency seems to negatively affect the relationship between generations since it would generate the sentimental gap among them. It is due to the fact that should youngsters have more power and influence on their communities, it means that they will have to dedicate to their work more to build up and enhance the overall quality of society. As a result, they would decrease their precious time on their beloved people, namely grandparents, parents, …. Moreover, the aspects of life of the young would be different from that of the old, which could be one of primary contributors leading to the sentimental gap. The perspectives of teenagers and elderly people could act as a barrier which will likely deter them from communicating and having a chat with each other , reducing mutual interactions on regular basis.

In conclusion, while teenagers nowadays tending to become more influential on their surroundings can be put down to the number of rights given to them, I suppose that this trend could create gap among generations.
