In this modern era, the crime rates among teenagers are rising day by day. While a common opinion is that youngsters who commit grave crimes should be incarcerated as adult criminals, other people feel that juvenile delinquents should be sentenced by other way unlike adults. In the paragraph i will discuss both views and provide my overall opinion.
Generally speaking, there are a wide range of reasons why people belive that adolocent criminals should not be punished as adult. Perhaps, the first reason is teenagers are so delicate and can’t even differentiate between right and wrong. As a result they are prone to do mishaps. Studies have shown that adolescents are impulsive and can take any risky decisions. Secondly. if juvenile delinquents are treated like other criminals they would sent to prisons. There are a lot of inmates from various background lives there and teenagers who commited crime once will follow the other adult criminals.
Because prison itself is a crime university. Furthermore, as the prisoners are treated harshly in prison, the adolescent criminals are prone to become mentally desvastated. As a result, they would re-join the crime after being sentenced. In addition, sending children to prison will hamper their education and it would be difficult to become a part of society in later life ; and this will influence them to do the crime again,
Hence, some commentators still feels that young criminals should be punished like an older one because it will stop them to redo the crime.
To sum up,juvenile delinquency is a matter with no easy solution. My personal view is that,teenage criminals should be given another chance and provide better education, vocational training so that they cam redeem themselves and make our world crime free.
