The table compares a breakdown of English people’s purposes for travelling by bus between the years 2009 and 2011.
Overall, individuals mainly commute to shop by bus, whereas work was the least-preferred destination during the given period. Notably, the proportion of all travelling intentions increased within a given time frame, with the exception of both shopping and work.
On closer inspection, in 2009, shopping accounted for 65%, overtaking all other travelling aims. This rate experienced a gradual decrease by 14 % in 2 years. Likewise, the percentage of people commuting to work by bus showed a similar trend, despite starting at 5%, in 2011, nobody chose this vehicle to go to work.
Conversely, although study and day tour were not common purposes for commuting by bus at the beginning, with only 4% and 7% respectively, both rose by 5% in 2010 and remained stable till the end. This was also the case for meeting friends, which comprised 19% in the first two years and increased by 4% at the end of the period.
