The pie chart shows the distribution of students by gender at a major university. From the first figure, we can see that there are more number of male students in the university.
The second pie chart which shows the distribution of students by subject, we can conclude that some subjects are dominated by male students whilst some are female dominated.
Engineering has a lot more male students. This could be due to the popular public perception that engineering jobs are too demanding and physically intensive for females. Business and Humanities have comparatively more female students,as compared to female students.
From the pie charts,it can be inferred that male students prefer an engineering degree whilst female students prefer Business and Humanities. There still exists a stigma around female engineers. The preference of Business and Humanities degree by female students could be due to the fact that they are considered less demanding and they can go on to pursue less physically intensive,desk jobs.
