The length of summer holidays for students has been a hotly-debated topic that often divides opinion. However, it can be argued that longer summer recesses are beneficial for learning.
To start with, some people argue that it is advisable that pupils have a long summer in order to relax and recharge after nine months of studying. Consequently, they can develop life skills and explore personal interests. On the other hand, it has its disadvantages because this can result in students forgetting material learned during the previous term. Nevertheless, they will be able to learn it while studying.
Secondly, having an extended summer break allows learners to do other activities such as summer camps, travelling, do some sports, arts and so on. Those are effective ways to socialize and to improve children’s creativity and interpersonal skills. Without any kind of stress, they can learn and also have fun.
Lastly, whether engaging in sports , arts, or other hobbies, students can discover talents that may not be found in a traditional classroom. This is necessary for their mental health. The importance of holidays is that they can recharge their batteries and come back to school with new strength.
To sum up, from my point of view, terms should not be longer than they currently are. Children need a considerable amount of rest time otherwise they may develop a negative attitude towards school and they would start disliking and despising it.
