Band 7+: These days people are living in 90s or beyond. as a result there is increasing concern about care for elderly. do you think it is the responsibility of the family or should the government be health responsible?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In modern society, one of the pressing issues is the care of the elderly. Some argue that it is the family’s duty, while others believe the government should be responsible. In my opinion, both family and government should share this responsibility, and I will discuss this perspective in the essay.

Firstly, families play a crucial role in supporting their elderly members. It is often considered a moral obligation for families to ensure their older relatives are well-cared for, addressing both their emotional and physical needs. Family members can provide personalized care and companionship that professional caregivers may not offer. However, the quality and extent of care depend significantly on the family’s resources and circumstances. For instance, many elderly individuals reside in care homes where trained professionals can cater to their specific health needs, which might be challenging for families to manage alone.

On the other hand, the government also bears a significant responsibility in ensuring the well-being of the elderly. Not all families have the financial means or the capability to provide adequate care. In such cases, governmental support becomes essential to prevent neglect and ensure that the elderly receive proper care. Governments can contribute by funding and constructing more residential care facilities, improving healthcare services for the elderly, and offering financial assistance to families in need. By implementing these measures, the government can alleviate the burden on families and ensure a higher standard of care for senior citizens.

In conclusion, both family and government should collaboratively take on the responsibility of caring for the elderly. While families provide essential emotional support and personalized care, the government can offer the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure comprehensive and adequate care. This dual approach would help prevent the elderly from suffering due to neglect or inadequate care, fostering a more supportive and caring society.
